Fat Joe - Me, Myself & I

Tuesday, November 28, 2006

Overall, Me, Myself & I was a decent CD. I can't say that I've heard all of Fat Joe's albums. I've heard the singles, but that's about it. For my first time, I will say that I wasn't disappointed and found at least four songs that I really like and will download to my mp3.

Make It Rain featuring Lil' Wayne
Breathe & Stop featuring The Game
Jealousy

Apple Corps Ltd/Capitol Records released the Beatles LOVE album in stereo and 5.1 on November 21st. This is the first Beatles album available in 5.1

The stereo CD contains 78 minutes of music. The DVD surround sound version on DVD disc album is a slightly extended version with 81 minutes of music.

After being asked by the remaining Beatles, Ringo and Paul, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, to make experimental mixes from their master tapes for a collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, Sir George Martin, The Beatles legendary producer, and his son Giles Martin have been working with the entire archive of Beatles recordings to create LOVE. The result is an unprecedented approach to the music. Using the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios, Sir George and Giles have created a unique soundscape. The release of this album, which is also featured in the Cirque du Soleil/Apple Corps collaborative production of the same name at The Mirage in Las Vegas, has been much anticipated.

"This album puts the Beatles back together again, because suddenly there's John and George with me and Ringo," said Paul McCartney. "It's kind of magical."

The 5.1 disc is a DVD-Audio/DVD-Video hybrid. The audio is presented in high-resolution 96/24 5.1 surround on the DVD-Audio part of the disc. The DVD-Video part carries 5.1 surround in DTS and Dolby Digital as well as a PCM stereo mix. This DVD album is designed to be played on DVD video equipment but will carry no video component.

Hear Mark Newman's "Must Be a Pony"

Hear Must Be A Pony:
http://www.v-room.info/MN/beapony.mp3

New York, NY-Mark Newman plays a mean slide guitar, sings his heart out and writes the kind of songs that resonate with universal longing. His Must Be A Pony debut (Danal Music), released today, features 13 originals by Newman and some of his friends (including Sam The Sham) plus a vaguely disquieting yet profoundly effective cover version of Barry and Robin Gibb's 1967 hit New York Mining Disaster 1941.

With a shifting cast of musicians-including Steve Holley (ex-Wings) on percussion and Anton Fig (David Letterman Band) on drums--Newman creates musical environments that surround his poetic lyrics in tasty soundscape vistas that accentuate but never intimidate his message, mainly that no matter how cynical the adult in one gets, the answer lies in attempting to rediscover the unbridled optimism of childhood.

Newman's the ultimate stringmaster (he picks guitar, lap steel mandolin and dobro) and his sense of soul is innate (so much so that R'n'B legend Sam Moore has him in his band).

Small Town Girl Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler's SMALL TOWN GIRL is the Best-Selling Debut By A New Country Artist This Year

NASHVILLE, TN - After a season on American Idol, Kellie Pickler knows firsthand the power of the vote, and with the release of her debut album, Small Town Girl, she debuts at Number One on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart and at Number 9 on the all-genre Billboard 200. In addition, Small Town Girl becomes the best-selling debut album this year by a new country artist, with fans snapping up more than 79,000 copies in its first week of release.

These are big-dreams-come-true for the native of Albemarle, NC, where just over a year ago she was a roller skating waitress trying to chart her course to Nashville, a record deal and the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

"2006 has been the best year ever," Kellie enthused. "I'm so excited to be on the country charts, let alone Number One! Thanks to everyone who helped make the album and to all the fans who are still picking Pickler!"

And when asked, "now that your album has not only released, but debuted at Number One, and you've played the Opry and criss-crossed the country on radio and television and appeared on the CMA Awards, what's next," she responded in her perky Southern accent, "Well, I guess it's time to get busy!"

Music Nation to Launch Global Music Talent Search

NEW YORK, NY - Committed to uncovering genuine, fresh music talent through emerging channels and connected communities, artist development company Music Nation is launching an online video music competition to empower both new and established musicians across the globe. Agreements have been reached with Clear Channel Radio, Epic Records (U.S.), Typhoon/EMI (Asia) and Mercury Records (Europe and Latin America).

Music Nation will accept entries for the U.S. competition in mid-November for free - inviting musicians and bands ages 13 and older to submit their video entries in the rock, pop and/or urban genres at www.MusicNation.com or local radio station websites for a chance to be among three winners of a recording contract with Epic Records. Beginning January 1, 2007, entrants will submit $25 with their videos to compete. In addition, the winners will be showcased on STRIPPED, Clear Channel Radio’s exclusive in-studio performance series.

Local radio personalities will drive artist participation, host weekly webisodes, promote local performances of contestants and provide on-air support, tapping into Clear Channel Radio's audience of 110 million weekly listeners and network of 1,200 stations.

"The music space has evolved. Music fans are online and they find music virally and through communities. They cannot be told what to listen to - word of mouth determines what becomes a hit," said Daniel Klaus, CEO Music Nation, Inc. "These partnerships will help us make a difference to bring more music to the forefront that people want to hear."

"We are committed to artist development and the role that our listeners play in finding new music. The Music Nation team has chosen an innovative approach that works well with what radio does best - foster local communities," said Evan Harrison, executive vice president of Clear Channel Radio and head of the company's Online unit. "This competition is a tremendous opportunity for listeners to uncover and champion local musicians.”"

"Partnering with Music Nation's expertise in emerging technologies will enable us to find talent in a more organic and natural fashion," said Charlie Walk, President of Epic Records. "This will truly be a powerful scouting tool for untapped talent and is a modern step towards revamping the way we find great artists."

"The creativity and consumer-driven concept behind Music Nation will help Typhoon/EMI to enhance, evolve and extend its current business model in a new and exciting way," said Norman Cheng, Chairman, Typhoon/EMI Music Asia. "It will also provide us with a unique audio and visual opportunity, something that will introduce consumers to a new generation of artists."

Music Nation has created a business model that harnesses emerging channels such as IPTV and a connected community to cultivate and empower new and established musicians. The company's founders bring extensive experience in the record industry, artist management/development, Internet media and e-commerce technologies.

After the U.S. launch, Music Nation competitions in other markets will roll out throughout 2007.

Lady Sovereign talks to Elle Girl

Lady Sovereign
Love her or hate her

This pint-sized female rapper from the UK has gotten comfy in the US after wowing Jay-Z, and her first single "Love Me or Hate Me" (we think it's tres Eminem) shot straight to #1 on TRL. Her whole bit is way in-your-face and after being a little difficult to pin down for an interview, she even responded to one question with a "That's none of your business!" Lucky for Lady Sov, playing hard to get kinda won us over. Public Warning is available now on Def Jam, and we'd like to warn the public, this ain't some gimmicky throwaway album; it's full of clever rhymes, tight beats and a side-ponytail we can't get enough of.

By Joanna Douglas

ELLEgirl: How did you come up with the name Lady Sovereign?
Lady Sovereign: I took a sovereign ring [traditional English jewelry] from the boyfriend of a mate of mine who was being nasty to my mate. I punished him! I kept the ring and named myself after it.

EG: Geez! Okay, well, you call yourself "The biggest midget in the game.' How tall are you really?
LS: 5'1". Not a real midget. A big midget!

EG: What artists did you grow up listening to?
LS: First off, I listened to what my mum and dad played who were punks, and then I started listening to jungle, techno and UK garage.

EG: How did you get started rapping?
LS: Out of boredom. School didn't really interest me, so I had plenty of time to write lyrics at home.

EG: How did you meet your longtime partner, DJ Frampster?
LS: On an internet forum for the UK garage act So Solid Crew. He was looking for MCs to join his crew, I wrote back to him and that's how it started.

EG: Have you always been able to talk really fast? Is that smoothness something that comes with practice?

Interview with Marion Raven

Please introduce yourself.
My names is Marion Raven. I play guitar and piano and music is my passion.

How long have you been singing?
I've been singing all my life, before I could even talk. My parents told me I would never shut up!

If you had to compare yourself with another singer who would you say
your style is similar to?

I hate comparing myself to other singers. I wouldn't really know.
People keep saying I'm something in between Alanis Morisette and Avril Lavigne.

When someone picks up your CD what should they expect to hear?
My EP is all about fun, catchy rock songs. They can expect a lot of attitude and personal lyrics.

Are any of the songs reflective of your real life experiences?
All of them do. My poor ex boyfriends and enemies :)

Who are some of your favorite singers?
I love 60's and 70's music. Singers like Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.

What's been one of the hardest obstacles you've faced thus far?
It's a long way to the top if you want to be in rock, especially if you are a young girl.

What would your best friend say about you?
Hopefully she would say that I am a loyal, nice and a good friend.
Someone she can trust and seek for comfort and support.

Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers?
Check out my EP that's out right now and come to my MySpace page (www.myspace.com/marionraven). There you can watch my video for "Heads Will Roll," see the video I did with Meat Loaf and write me messages.

Drake Bell It's Only Time

For a 20 year old, Drake Bell is an old soul when it comes to the music he listens to and plays on his Universal Motown Records debut It's Only Time. Songs like the first single, I Know, which sounds like it could have come off Rubber Soul, and the empowering, Elton John like rocker Do What You Want boasts a bittersweet pop sound, with catchy harmonies and plenty of exuberant vocal hooks, which is no wonder considering the Newport Beach, CA, native, whose mother is two-time world champion pool player Robin Dodson, was raised on the classic rock of the 60s. Learning how to play guitar from The Who's Roger Daltrey, with whom he worked in the 1998 movie Changing Destiny, Drake proved a natural student.

A child actor who began appearing in commercial and feature films when he was 5, Bell says: "When I was a kid, I wanted to be Elvis Presley so I could star in movies and TV while also playing music." Bell went on to roles in the feature films High Fidelity and Yours, Mine and Ours as well as the TV series Seinfeld, The Drew Carey Show, The Pretender and Home Improvement while appearing in the cast of Nickelodeon's sketch comedy series The Amanda Show, which led to his starring role on the network's popular The Josh and Drake Show.

Courtney Love Pens Book Dirty Blond

DIRTY BLONDE is an eclectic composition of deeply personal artifacts—including letters, childhood records, poetry, journal entries, song lyrics, fanzines, show flyers, other original writings, and never-before-seen photographs-DIRTY BLONDE leads us through the unimaginable highs and the despairing lows of one of the most captivating and creative figures in the world of popular culture. Ranging from her upbringing in Oregon through her years of living in Japan, New Zealand, and London, from her career highs with Hole and as a Hollywood leading lady to her personal heartbreak and struggles, DIRTY BLONDE is Love laid bare—a wholly fascinating portrait of a fierce and insightful woman with an unblinking worldview and a determination to express herself no matter the cost.

Love writes in her introduction: 'I have always said that I would never write a book, and I really haven't.' It's true-- 'diaries' is something of a misnomer, as 'scrapbooks' would more accurately describe the collection of old photographs, hand-scrawled song lyrics and other documents that fill these pages.'

Elisabeth Withers It Can Happen to Anyone

"It Can Happen to Anyone" is a CD that takes you on a journey back to yesteryear when all the songs had a message. Elisabeth Withers reminds me of a younger Gladys Knight, but don't get me wrong, Withers has a distinctive voice of her own.

My favorite songs are tracks #1 Simple Things, #2 Heartstrings, #4 It Can Happen, #7 The World Ain't Ready and #9 Wind beneath My Wings.

Elisabeth Withers wooed audiences as Shug Avery in the Broadway production of The Color Purple, and now she is wooing listeners with her brand new CD "It Can Happen to Anyone." Withers debut CD is a soulful combination of songs that lets her voice shine on every track. It Can Happen to Anyone is a powerful display of Withers skills as a vocalist and I highly recommend it. ~ Shelia M. Interview with Author Kendal S Turner

Please introduce yourself to the readers. My name is Kendal S. Turner and I am a poet/Author of two books. Broken Yet
Sustained by God
and Anatomy of The Soul.

How would you categorize your book?
It's kind of hard to categorize my book because I didn't write it for a certain
category. Broken Yet Sustained by God was more of an expression of my soul, my
experiences, my struggles and my journey to become the person who God made me
today. It was my testimony. But Anatomy of the Soul is written from an
observational standpoint of what I see others struggle with, and I try to give
guidance to the reader in how to come out of the struggles that they face. I
would say it is more of an inspirational/spiritual book written in poetic form.

Why did you decide to write your book?
One word-Therapy! I wrote Broken as a release of the burdens and the pain that
I held onto for so many years. Broken was a healing process for me. I had no
idea of all the baggage that I was carrying until I put it all into words. These
words turned into poems that turned into a book, which has brought deliverance
to so many women. I wrote Anatomy of the Soul for the purpose of showing other
broken women that if I can be delivered, they could be delivered as well.
Anatomy of the Soul's poems are followed by a scripture, to reiterate the word
of God, and to give them a revelation of who they are in Christ. I wrote this
book to show people that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. There is
hope.

How can readers learn more about your books and get in contact with you?
They can contact me through my website www.kendalsturner.com. I'm on MYSPACE
too! They can sign my page or leave comments on www.myspace.com/kendalsturner
and I personally answer every email that I receive. They can write me at P.O.
box 32713, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123

How do you balance writing with your "every day life?"
When the concept or the idea for a poem comes, I try to get to my computer or
pull out a pen and pad to write it down as soon as I can. I have four boys, so
in between changing diapers, helping with homework or running back and forth to
football and basketball games, and spending time with my husband, I use the only
free time I have to do me. I write. Its what I do, I enjoy doing it so it
doesn't stress me out, it just feels good to see the fruit of my labor, but It
don't feel like labor. I would write poems for free just to see somebody else's
life be changed by something I wrote. That’s such a wonderful feeling.

Are you working on anything new?
Yes! I am working on my novel as we speak. My 3rd book will be a memoir titled
Thick Skin. God gave me the title for this book in a dream. In the dream, I
picked up a book that was written by me, with the title of Thick Skin and I knew
that would capsulize my life prior to being completely delivered from my past.
This book will go into explicit and raw detail of everything I've been through.
A person would have to have "Thick Skin" to be able to make it through all of
the struggles that I faced. This book will be raw and I'm not pulling any
punches. I'm going to speak on things in my past that other people might be
afraid to unveil. I'm letting all the skeletons out of my closet and it feels
good! I talk about being molested (that happened to me at age 8) and how that
has affected me to this day. I also talk about how God delivered me from
homosexuality, a stronghold that I kept hidden for years. I speak on my sister
who is battling with paranoia schizophrenia and being a mother of 3 children. I
also touched on my divorce and how my children were completely abandoned by
their father. That's just a glimpse of what the novel will entail.

Who are some of your favorite authors?
I love Joyce Meyers, Juanita Bynum is another one of my favorites, and Maya
Angelou is very inspirational to me.

Babel The Movie and Soundtrack

Babel, the last film by Alejandro González Inarritu that completes his trilogy which began with Amores Perros and 21 Grams, weaves together three compelling stories united by something stronger than fate. In the course of just a few days, they will each face the dizzying sensation of becoming profoundly lost - lost in the desert, lost to the world, lost to themselves - as they are pushed to the farthest edges of confusion and fear as well as to the very depths of connection and love.

Gustavo Santaolalla, who wrote the score for Babel, won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Score for Brokeback Mountain, which sold 165,000 copies in the U.S. alone. To give his music for Babel an authentic Middle Eastern feel, Santaolalla taught himself to play the oud, an Arab lute with a distinct, percussive sound. His work for the soundtrack album includes solo oud meditations, folkloric recordings of the Gnawa brotherhoods of Morocco and orchestrated pieces that combine electronic percussion with the sounds of classical Arab music.

A global story needed a global soundtrack, but Inarritu didn't want a hodge podge of folk music or songs that sounded like incidental music for a National Geographic special. Inarritu, Santaolalla, Anibal Kerpel (Composer and Music Editor) and Lynn Fainchtein (Music Supervisor) locked themselves up in a recording studio both in Marrakech and Tijuana, where they listened to and recorded the music of the Gnawa and other traditional Arab musicians in Morocco, and delved into various Norteno sounds in Tijuana. In Japan, musician, producer and DJ Shinichi Osawa and musician, producer Cornelius guided Inarritu and his collaborators through the sights and sounds of Tokyo at night. The resulting soundtrack takes us on a journey with no beginning or end, with music that illuminates the film as well as the creative process behind it.

The Bee Gees The Studio Albums 1967-1968

The Studio Albums 1967-1968 is the definitive collection of the five-piece Bee Gees lineup that rocketed to fame in the late 1960s: singing siblings Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, and Australian instrumentalists Vince Melouney and Colin Petersen. The quintet's albums Bee Gees 1st, Horizontal, and Idea have been brilliantly revitalized, with remastered CDs of stereo and mono mixes of each title paired with second discs of rare and unreleased recordings from the period - the first time The Bee Gees have opened their vaults for extensive archival exploration.
