Deemi - The Hoodz Princess

Monday, August 28, 2006

Deemi is an R & B singer and her road to success hasn’t been easy. She’s taken her life experiences and compiled them into one album. “Every song on 'The Soundtrack of My Life' is an actual situation I’ve been in and how I’ve overcome,” says R & B singer, Deemi.

Shelia Goss: Did you always know you wanted to be a singer?
Deemi:
I didn’t even know I could sing until I was put in a talent show. I won first place. I don’t want to do anything else. I like working with kids, so if I had to do something else it would have to do with kids.

Shelia: Who chose the songs for your CD and did you write any of the lyrics?
Deemi:
The production company.

Shelia: How has your life changed since your success?
Deemi:
I don’t feel any different. People are just now noticing it. I’ve always been Deemi. I feel blessed & humbled because so many people dream of it and it’s become a reality…

Shelia: Do you prefer ballads or more up-tempo songs?
Deemi:
It’s whatever mood I’m in.

Shelia: How would you categorize your songs?
Deemi:
People categorize it as hip-hop & R & B. I want to do everything.

Shelia: Will you be going on tour anytime soon?
Deemi:
I will be going on tour when the first single drops.

Shelia: When will your album Soundtrack of My Life be released?
Deemi:
March 2006.

Shelia: What advice would you give other aspiring singers?
Deemi:
Get ready to work. Put your whole heart in it and make it your life.
It depends on how bad you want it and you really have to put your mind into it.

Shelia: Who are some of your favorite singers?
Deemi:
Aretha…The Stylistics, Karen Carpenter, John Denver…so many others. I listen to everything. Music speaks to your heart.

Shelia: Is there anything else you would like to say to the readers?
Deemi:
Yes. I’m a single mother trying be as real as possible. I sing about real issues—as real as it gets. I just want to be me and I hope whoever listens to me, feels me.
