Young Diamond Books Launches Teen Urban Fiction Line
Wednesday, August 16, 2006
Young Diamond Books enters the urban teen fiction arena with the launch of their first novel, Ride Wit’ Me (Trade Paperback; August 2, 2006; ISBN 0-9724003-8-9). The novel, written by seasoned author Katina King, adds credibility to the ever-growing African American market, particularly among young adults.
“As a publishing company, I applaud their efforts. Young Diamond’s intent is to provide a readable line of books without drugs, violence or sex for young adults. With urban fiction being so prevalent, we want young adults to read, just not the wrong thing. With Young Diamond, they will get the best of both worlds … urban fiction, but age appropriate,” says author Joy King (Dirty Little Secrets).
Book Excerpt: Mercedes is truly a daddy’s girl. She is his crown jewel and nothing in the world is more precious to him. Her main goal is to please her father … until she falls in love for the very first time. Dalvin is a rising Kingpin, with a family that already runs the streets of Chicago. One day, it will all be his. Falling in love is the last thing on his mind, until he meets Mercedes Clinton … the girl of his dreams; his destiny.
Sometimes in love, things are not meant to be. Parents can seemingly become your enemy, and the streets you once loved can suddenly have a hand in trying to destroy anything good. Will Mercedes and Dalvin fall victim to the obstacles standing in their way, or will they fight against the odds and ride it out?
About the Author: Katina King decided to dedicate part of her life writing for Young Diamond Books after recognizing the importance of giving back. An author of street literature, she realized the value of having content appropriate selections for teenagers and wanted to do something about it. Ms. King resides in New Jersey with her son and writes full time, currently at work on her next novel.
