Alchemist Produced Lead Single, "Make My Own," Features Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Receiving Strong Support at Radio
(Brooklyn, NY) Los Angeles veteran rapper Defari is confirmed to release his third solo album Street Music Tuesday, August 8th on famed indie hip-hop label ABB Records, the same label that released his first 12" single, "Bionic" in 1997. The first single off the new album is the Alchemist produced song "Make My Own," featuring Dilated Peoples emcee/ producer Evidence. "Make My Own" is off to a great start at radio with plenty of spins at KPWR (Los Angeles, CA), KDAY (Los Angeles, CA), KMEL (San Francisco, CA), KKFR (Phoenix, AZ), and XMOR (San Diego, CA) to name a few. A video for "Make My Own" is currently in production. Since leaving the now defunct Tommy Boy label, Defari hit the ground running with a countless number of collaborations, most notably his work on "Some L.A. Niggas" featured on Dr. Dre's multi-platinum release Chronic 2001. In addition to nonstop touring with acts such as tha Alkaholiks, Xzibit, Little Brother and Dilated Peoples, he recently partnered up with DJ Babu (Dilated Peoples/ World Famous Beat Junkies) as the Likwit Junkies and released their first album, The L.J.'s, to much critical acclaim in publications like the Source, Scratch, and Elemental Magazine.
Taking it to the streets, Defari's vision for his new project began with the very people who supported him from the outset of his career. "I took the advice of my fans, and they told me my best effort was Focused Daily," he says of conversations that led to Street Music. "So, I wanted to take it back to Focused Daily and turn it up times 20. That's what Street Music is about. That's where hip-hop began. That's what I am, a hip-hop artist, and that's what I'm giving them, a straight bang-out." Street Music is filled with unrivaled production courtesy of the Alchemist (Mobb Deep), Evidence (Dilated Peoples/ Kanye West), E-Swift (Tha Alkaholiks), and Mike City (Jamie Foxx/ Sunshine Anderson) to name a few. Also lending their talents are Dilated Peoples, J Ro (Tha Alkaholiks), B Real (Cypress Hill), Tuffy (Channel Live), plus a few others. Look for Defari to take Street Music on the road this fall!
