Five Questions with Latrese Carter

Tuesday, June 05, 2007

Why did you decide to write?

Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve always enjoyed writing—especially journaling. In college, I sought out English classes, although my major was Criminal Justice, just so I could learn more about the writing craft. After many years of joking with friends and family about writing a book, I finally decided in May 2005 to pen my first novel.

What is your new book, Liar, Liar about?

Liar, Liar is about Stormy Adair Knight, a woman in her late twenties, who is desperate to be married. Stormy thinks she has found the right man, in her pastor’s son, Camden Brooks. But months prior to their wedding, Stormy is devastated when she learns that Camden is cheating on her with another parishioner from the church.

What else happens?

After this revelation, Stormy and Camden’s wedding is called off. But months later, Stormy is convinced by her pastor that Camden has been delivered from the demons that made him unfit for marriage. Believing in Camden’s transformation, Stormy agrees to marry Camden and their lavish ceremony signals the start of wonderful married life.

However, once married, Stormy realizes that Camden has not changed at all. He’s still very much involved with the third party from their church. And to add fuel to the fire, a scorned ex-lover resurfaces and begins to stalk them all.

Are the characters based on people you know?

My characters are based on many people many people. I used personalities, characteristics, and life situations from people I know personally or have seen on television.
